As a social enterprise, Atira Property Management Inc. is owned wholly by Atira Women's Resource Society – a well-known and established not-for-profit charitable organization serving the Vancouver / White Rock / South Surrey community since 1983.

All of Atira Property Management’s profits are donated to the Atira Women's Resource Society and used to fund transition housing and support services for women and children who are recovering from the effects of violence and abuse within their families. The Society operate s three first-stage transition houses, a second-stage transition house program, a women’s emergency shelter, and long-term supportive housing for “hard-to-house” women in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Our goal is to offer excellent service to the community while reducing reliance on government funding. The success of Atira Property Management Inc. will improve the long-term sustainability of the Society.

Janice Abbott, CEO of Atira Property Management Inc. and Atira Women's Resource Society

Janice conceived of and launched Atira Property Management Inc. in 2002. As the Executive Director of Atira Women's Resource Society, Janice is described by the Vancouver Sun as one of Canada’s leading social entrepreneurs. She took the Executive Director position in 1992, and since then she has led the organization from a single transition house to a large, multi-service agency with more than 20 programs and 11 sites in the Lower Mainland.

Janice develops new programs for the Society, raises capital through property management, and works with and supports staff from both organizations. She says all her work is driven by her passion to eliminate violence against women.

Valerie Lindstrom, Managing Broker

Valerie has recently been hired as Atira’s new Managing Broker. She brings an amazing 21 years of experience with her that was acquired after studying at UBC (getting a diploma in Urban Land & Appraisal) & at Vancouver Community College (earning herself a certificate in Meeting & Event Planning).

Of her expansive amount of experience, 17 of those years were spent as the owner and manager of a successful real estate company, and as a part owner of the now defunct Allegro Café— a restaurant specializing in Mediterranean cuisine once in Vancouver’s downtown core. Atira is very happy to have won Valerie as the new Managing Broker and we’re very confident she will go on to do amazing work with us.
